An authentic Sevres Porcelain French teapot in white porcelain with gold border design, ornate filigree décor and duck egg blue / gold Marquis monogram with the entwined initials LS or SL. Undamaged, but with a few significant manufacture problems, still showing the Sevres porcelain quality and workmanship. The pot is good excellent condition and ready to go on display or into service at your next tea party!

An unusual piece, this tea pot has been marked with the Sevres lozenge date stamp S.74 from 1874, and noted as a second, probably due to the visible firing fault of a fissure on the handle. Therefore the piece has remained unsigned apart from the date mark. Missing the original lid, it was probably sold without one as a second quality item from the factory (an 'as found' marriage of a smaller lid is provided with the piece). I find it sweet to think of this piece, originally destined for a grand family of the nobility, being quietly acquired by a person who could not other wise have afforded such grandeur and luxury - this piece has remained in very good condition over the years, with no additional damage nor much wear to the gilding, so it was probably kept 'for best' by the owners over the last 150 years.

The monogram indicates that this piece was personalized for a specific buyer or a private commission. This particular monogram incorporates a marquis crown so would likely be linked to someone of noble rank with the initials "LS" or "SL". Probably the piece was commissioned as part of a larger set of fine porcelain by a historical noble family, likely with the title Marquis. The duck egg blue and gold combination shows that this teapot was not just a functional object but an ornate and decorative piece intended for display, made to highlight the family's status. (I do not know the exact family but, from the time it was made, Marquis de La Salle or Marquis de Saint-Léon are possibilities.)

Gorgeous 19th century styling, with a dainty low bowl format, ornate flourishes, in crisp white porcelain and a lovely gold decoration and timeless curving forms. The intricate gold and light blue monogram required the involvement of the skilled decorators who worked with Sèvres at that time, as they were famous for creating luxurious, custom-designed items for nobility. Beautiful and practical for continued service - and the crisp white and gold palette makes this versatile and very easy to match with other pieces.

A lovely piece to use and enjoy, or to display as a wonderful authentic piece of Sevres porcelain!
