40 pc French antique green white transferware dinner service c1910, Platane Saint Amand France, 10 place setting (+ extras) & serving dishes
40 pc French antique green white transferware dinner service c1910, Platane Saint Amand France, 10 place setting (+ extras) & serving dishes
A very elegant French green transferware dinner service including full plate settings for 10 (or more) people, plus a full set of various serving dishes from Saint Amand France. In the design "Platane" c 1910 - in very good antique condition and still very usable. Perfect celebration china - or wedding gift.
Featuring a gorgeous foliate design, with a vining border of leaves in deep forest green. This set is an absolutely classic French Country design, very elegant and timeless to fit with any décor. Numerous plates to serve a significant dinner party, accompanied by classically French matching set of serve ware. Excellent color retaining a crisp white base without significant discoloration, there are no cracks or significant chips whatsoever, and all pieces remain usable.
A feature to note with this set is that the plates are of a small size for modern sensibilities at 22.5cm in diameter. This is not uncommon with French dinner sets of the era, in line with the French style of dining with multiple small courses. If serving large portions, it may be necessary to complement the set with a set of larger plates (I would recommend a simple dark green) to give all the options with your dinner service.
The set includes: 23 flat plates, 10 soup plates, a soup tureen, a sauce boat; two lozenge-shaped ravier dishes; one large round flat serving platter; one large oval flat serving platter; one large low salad bowl. All in 'very good' to 'excellent' usable condition.
Dimensions and specific notes as follows:
- 1 double-ended sauce boat (26cm long c 16cm wide x 10.5cm high) in very good condition. Some light sepia-colored staining inside the bowl and in the base of the footplate. Otherwise, good state.
- 1 oval serving platter (34cm x 23.5cm x 3.5cm high) in excellent condition.
- 1 round serving platter (28.5cm diameter x 3.5cm high) one small glaze scrape to the rim of approx 3mm x 2mm. Otherwise in very good condition.
- 1 round salad bowl / deep dish (27cm diameter x 6cm high) Some light sepia-colored staining inside the bowl. Otherwise in very good condition.
- 2 lozenge-shaped raviers / vegetable serving dishes - 25cm long x 14.5cm wide x 3.2cm high. One with some crazing (no other damage), the other in excellent condition.
- 1 medium sized soup tureen with lid, 25cm high (including lid - 16cm without lid) x 29cm wide (including handles), 24 diameter at widest point. In good condition with a few glaze losses in the bottom of the bowl (2 small at 1-2mm diameter, one medium sized 4mm diameter). Otherwise very good condition.
- 23 Dinner plates (22.5cm diameter) in good - excellent condition. 2 examples with minor damage - 1 with a small chip to the back outer rim of approx. 4mm x 2mm (not visible from the front); the other with glaze scrapes to the outer rim (not very visible, but can be felt during handling). 6 other pieces with slightly more wear apparent than the other plates, showing more pronounced crazing and/or some light tea stain discoloration. The other 15 pieces show light crazing and signs of wear but remain in very good-excellent condition.
- 10 soup plates (23.75cm diameter) in excellent condition
Unless otherwise stated, all pieces are in excellent antique condition - they may show some minor crazing, light signs of use and very minor discoloration in places, and minor manufacturing faults to be expected from the more 'handmade' production processes of the time.
Damaged areas are not shown due to space constraints. Unless noted in the description above, all pieces are in excellent antique condition. I do have many more images available so please message me if you would like to see them and feel free to ask any questions.
Overall this set has been lightly used and remains in very good condition despite its great age. Because this is a functional item, you may expect to see signs of use including light scratches, a few small areas of glaze loss, a few small areas of discoloration, etc. Also it is manufactured to different standards than today and you may see areas of transfer smudging, glaze spots, bubbles, or inclusions under the glaze - these are part of the vintage charm of the item and should in no way be regarded as faults. Overall, this set is in truly lovely condition for its age of 100+ years - it remains very usable and will display well for years to come.
A beautiful way to add some authentic French vintage charm to your life!
