A gorgeous design for this set of 4 French-language ceramic kitchen canisters in classic Parisian style. In descending size, without their lids, this set features classic Art Nouveau styling of the Belle Epoque and date from around 1900-1910 in polychrome stencil painted earthenware.
Made for the French market, with all labels in French, and a gorgeous Art Nouveau design of stylised violet coloured flowers and a cute (but subtle) Eiffel tower motif in the black garland patterns. A lovely design, accompanied by text in an elegant font. Although without lids, this set is in very good vintage condition and would be a lovely French vintage addition to a Farmhouse, French Country or cottage style kitchen.
The colour of the ground is an aged white, moving to cream, with a patina of use and age apparent. Unmarked except for a D on the base - this could stand for the maker Ditmar who made ceramics of this kind for the French market.
In descending size as follows from largest to smallest:
"Farine" - 16cm high x 12cm wide x 12cm deep
"Cafe" - 14.5cm high x 10cm wide x 10cm deep
"The" - 10.5cm high x 7.5cm wide x 7.5cm deep
"Poivre" - 9.5cm high x 6.5cm wide x 6.5cm deep
(All sizes at widest / tallest point)
This set is good-satisfactory vintage condition. A large chip from the corner of the 'Thé' pot, some tea staining and signs of use and wear such as fleabite chips, scratches, marks here and there. Areas of discoloration inside the pots and scrapes / signs of use at the edges. Some crazing of the glaze as to be expected with the age of the set. No other cracks, chips or repairs. In excellent condition for display.
Overall, a very good ceramic set with a lovely 'couldn't-be-more-French' design - a great find!
Feel free to ask any questions :)
